Why does the virtualization administration guide lacks cgroup + libvirt information ?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • doc-Virtualization_Administration_Guide 6

Issue

  • RFE: Documentation for using cgroups with KVM is poor
  • Both the RHEL 6 Virtualization Guide (VG) and Resource Management Guide (RMG) lack any details on how to use cgroups with KVMs.
  • More importantly the RMG fails to completely mention that KVMs are by default configured into their own "libvirt" hierarchy within most of the existing subsystems, e.g. /cgroup/cpu/libvirt.
  • Neither VG or any man pages mention anything about the configuration files under /etc/libvirt.
  • There is no documentation on using cgroups with libvirt in the Virt Admin guide.
  • Ideally, we'd like to see the information in https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/articles/41530 and http://berrange.com/posts/2009/12/03/using-cgroups-with-libvirt-and-lxckvm-guests-in-fedora-12/ merged into the Virt Admin guide to resolve this issue.

Resolution

  • This request for enhancement is under consideration to be implemented in a future release of RHEL, please raise a support case if this functionality is important to you.
