Cannot send a mail due to smtp authentication.

Issue

  • Our customer encountered that smtp authentication failed.
  sendmail(MTA):RHEL                          Mail server
           ------- TCP connection establishment --->
           <----- 220 ESMTP Service ready ----------
           ------ EHLO ... ------------------------>
           <----- 250- ... 250-AUTH=LOGIN... -------
           ------ MAIL From:xxx  AUTH=xxx --------->
           <----- 505 Authentication required ------
  • Authentication request of RHEL may be incorrect, so we tried followings but any way did not resolve.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • sendmail
