Why does sos make changes to ldap.conf on RHEL ?

Issue

I am trying to find out if there are any mechanisms that might change the bindpw in /etc/ldap.conf from that password it should be to the value '***'.
Yesterday, we saw that the bindpw had changed as described above.

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
sos package earlier than sos-1.7-9.27.el5
