"Aborted" error seen when trying to su to ldap user account on RHEL host

Issue

When trying to su from an unpriviledged user account to another user account defined in our LDAP directory server, with debug 1 defined in /etc/ldap.conf, we see the following error:

frank
bash-3.2$ su testuser
