Why can't I pass through a tape drive to a guest in RHEV?

Issue

I have a requirement to pass through LTO5 Tape drives published over SAN to hypervisor host to be made visible to VMs on RHEV.
I have presented the tape device to the RHEV-H but cannot pass through to RHEV guests
