System freezes occasionally on boot at video switch in Red Hat Enterprise Linux6.

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • About 15% of the time when the system boots, it freezes about at the time one would expect it to switch its video mode. It appears there is a race condition that occasionally causes booting to fail.

  • When the systems freezes, it must be turned off (with the power switch because ctrl-alt-del does not work).

  • SSH login is also not possible at the time of issue.
  • Getting following error on screen :

[drm] radeon defaulting to kernel modesetting.
    [drm] radeon kernel modesetting enabled.
