jstack -F hits DebuggerException on OpenJDK portable build

Issue

  • We're using the zip OpenJDK distribution and note that jstack -F always fails with the following error:
Error attaching to process: Doesn't appear to be a HotSpot VM (could not find symbol "gHotSpotVMTypes" in remote process)
