Issue

  • NetworkManager allows default gateway or other next-hop router in a different subnet
  • For example, the following GATEWAY router is not in the locally connected subnet:
PREFIX=24
IPADDR=192.168.0.101  ## range 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255
GATEWAY=192.168.1.1   ## gateway address is outside above range

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • NetworkManager
  • IP network with default gateway or other next-hop router
