Why does the 'order' keyword in '/etc/host.conf' have no effect in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6?

Issue

  • It is required that server should check /etc/hosts file before trying to query DNS.
  • For that when added order keyword in /etc/host.conf file, it made no effect, why ?
