libvirtd changes the permission of the image file to root when the guest is stopped

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Set the following in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf and restart libvirtd service

    user = "vmadmin"
    group = "vmadmin"

  • When the KVM guest is started, it starts using the user "vmadmin" and also the image file associated with it changes to "vmadmin". When it stops, the image file permission changed back to root. Is there a way to keep the image owned by vmadmin:vmadmin after the VM finishes running?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
