JBoss log4j log files using RollingFileAppender not rolling after configured size limit is reached

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • log file size is about 300MB with MaxFileSize set to 5MB
  • rhq-server-log4j.log is not rolling based on the file defaults
  • server.log is not rolling at specified size limit

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Middleware product using Apache Log4j
    • Red Hat JBoss Operations Network (JON) 3
  • Log4j configuration with an appender using RollingFileAppender
