RHEL NIS Slave does not sync with HP-UX NIS Master

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • I am trying to setup a Linux NIS slave with HP-UX master servers, following steps being performed:
- /etc/sysconfig/network : updated to contain valid NISDOMAIN=name-of-domain value
- /etc/nsswitch.conf : updated
- nisdomainname name-of-domain
- services restarted
- "ypinit -s <name-of-slave>"
- ypwhich -m : display correct master's server information
  • I also followed all the steps from guide - https://access.redhat.com/site/solutions/47192 (including the step no. 6) - without any luck
  • Slave server unable to fetch all the maps (passwd, group, ...)
  • The /var/yp/<domain>/ folder is empty

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5, 6 NIS Slave
  • HP-UX NIS Master
