Unable to access contents of CIFS mount , getting error "Invalid argument"

Issue

  • Unable to create files/directories on CIFS mount.
[root@hostname]#  touch test
touch: setting times of ‘test’: Invalid argument

[root@hostname]# mkdir test
mkdir: cannot create directory ‘test’: Invalid argument
  • Why am I unable to list contents of CIFS share?
[root@hostname]# ls -l  /cifsshare
ls: reading directory /cifsshare: Invalid argument

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • CIFS
