Issue

  • The cockpit login authentication from a remote server via a web browser failed with Wrong user name or password.
  • The login with any user including root user failed with the following error message in /var/log/secure.
cockpit-session: pam_unix(cockpit:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=YYY euid=YYY tty= ruser= rhost=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX  user=ZZZZ
  • YYY in this error message was not 0, meaning a root user.
