How does Linux ethernet bonding works in a IBM BladeCenter environment

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

Setting up Linux ethernet bonding in a BladeCenter environment does often generate a general misunderstanding in the expectation that removing the network connection on an external port of the internal switch module (also defined as Ethernet Switch Module) will result in the Linux bonding driver failing over to the backup.

This is not the correct expected behaviour in case of IBM BladeCenter environment

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
