Is it possible to add a Node to OpenShift Container Platform that is not part of the configured cloud-provider

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • While trying to add a physical node to the cluster using scaleup.yml playbook as documented, the master checks for the nodes on the cloud-provider and since the new node is not available in the cloud-provider, the new node is removed by the controller shortly after it was added. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
  • Adding a new node to OpenShift, which is external (physical) to OpenStack, containing GPU (as we have a request for GPU workload). As this Node is not part of OpenStack, adding the Node is failing as the cloud-provider is unable to identify the Node and thus removing it.

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
