Is it possible to authenticate local users to RHEV-M without using IPA, AD or other external directory services?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Currently RHEV requires either IPA, Active Directory, or the Red Hat Directory server. We understand that this is very convenient for Desktop Visualization using the User Portal, etc. However our needs are simple, we have RHEV installed for our Development departement and would only use one or two users. It would have been enough to have users authenticate via the /etc/passwd file via PAM or maybe via an internal authentication mechanism currently used for the admin user. So is it possible to

  • Do authentication via PAM modules for users exists in /etc/passwd file of RHEV-M?

  • Add authentication via a simple user management screen where a user could be added form RHEV-M GUI?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.1, 3.2
