Why does "yum install <package1> <package2>", where the "<package2>" identifier doesn't exist, cause the transaction to fail in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When issuing a yum install <package1> <package2>, and the <package2> entry is invalid, unavailable, or otherwise inaccessible, the entire transaction fails as shown below. In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and before, this was an informational message and the transaction would succeed, why is this different in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8?

    # yum install python3 unavailable-package
