RHEL 5 System hangs after "nfs4_reclaim_open_state: unhandled error -10026. Zeroing state"

Issue

After a network issue where the client cannot contact the server for a period of time(lease time), when the client attempts to reconnect to the server, it get the following error

kernel: nfs4_reclaim_open_state: unhandled error -10026. Zeroing state

After this the system becomes completely unresponsive.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5
  • NAS EMC Celerra NS40G (software version 5.6.42-5).
  • Kernel 2.6.18-238.5.1.el5
