Unmounting of vxfs partition on RHEL 5 can trigger a kernel panic later on, during fdisk or LUN scanning operations

Issue

  • Unmounting of vxfs partition triggers a kernel panic.
  • On changing the partition system id for /dev/cciss/c0d1p1 from Linux (83)  to Linux LVM(8e) system panics. Before changing the partition id,  the partition was unmounted.
  • Using Red Hat provided LUN scanning script causes a kernel panic in blkdev_releasepage.
