Why the process `tty1` is missing in RHEL6?

Issue

  • The tty1 process is not running in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. 
[root@example ~]# ps -ef | grep tty
root       633  9954  0 14:40 pts/3    00:00:00 grep tty
root      3797     1  0 11:42 tty2     00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty /dev/tty2
root      3799     1  0 11:42 tty3     00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty /dev/tty3
root      3803     1  0 11:42 tty4     00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty /dev/tty4
root      3805     1  0 11:42 tty5     00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty /dev/tty5
root      3807     1  0 11:42 tty6     00:00:00 /sbin/mingetty /dev/tty6
  • Tried running exec /sbin/mingetty tty1 But it logs off from the server and logs this on messages: 
/sbin/mingetty[2871]: tty1: no controlling tty: Operation not permitted
  • How to get tty1 running again?
