Schema for virt-xml-validate is too strict in Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Issue

The XML Schema for libvirt domains is too strict. This causes  virt-xml-validate to reject standard XML. Specifically, the  valid machine type rhel5.4.0 in this block is rejected:

<os>
 <type arch='x86_64' machine='rhel5.4.0'>hvm</type>
 <boot dev='hd'/>
</os>

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 and earlier
  • libvirt-0.6.3-33
