[6.0] virt-v2v can't migrate from a VMware ESX's guest OS whose name contains '(' or '#'.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • A guest OS whose name contains special characters such as "(" or "#" can't be created on KVM, but can on VMware ESX.

  • In the case that a VMware ESX's guest OS's name is "RHEL5.5#1" for example, virt-v2v fails to migrate from the guest OS to KVM with an error message.  Our partner suspects that this is due to a bug of virt-v2v.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Snapshot13
  • Architecture: x86_64

  • Kernel Version: kernel-2.6.32-70.el6.x86_64

  • Related Package Version: virt-v2v-0.6.2-4.el6.x86_64
