Directory entry modification from console fails with error "unknown error with naming attribute"

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

An entry with different case in in RDN (eg: uid=LdapUser,$suffix) and the attribute (uid=ldapuser) cannot be modified from RHDS console. The modification fails with error unknown error with naming attribute

  • Add an entry with different case in RDN and attribute to LDAP (using ldapadd command) to re-produce the issue.

For example:

# cat DiffCase.ldif
dn: uid=LdapUser,ou=users,dc=gsslab,dc=pnq,dc=redhat,dc=com
uid: ldapuser
employeeNumber: 12345
givenName: foo
objectClass: top
objectClass: person
objectClass: organizationalPerson
objectClass: inetorgperson
sn: nil
cn: ldap user
  • Open Directory Console, try to add or remove an attribute from the user entry, console fails to save the modifications, and returns unknown error with naming attribute error.
