Why does command 'palimpsest' report errors for multipath devices?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

  • When executing "Format Drive" to multipath device: /dev/dm-N using palimpsest GUI (Disk Utility), it returns below erro:
$ palimpsest /dev/dm-X

Then it fail with following error popup.
Error creating partition table: helper exited with exit code 1: In part
_create_partition_table: device_file=/dev/dm-0, scheme=0
got it
got disk
committed to disk
BLKRRPART ioctl failed for /dev/dm-0: Invalid argument
  • This works fine using parted against the same device.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.4
  • Palimpsest Disk Utility(gnome-disk-utility)
