Sound does not work and gnome desktop freezes after upgrade to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5
Issue
- Upgraded the RHEL5 box to latest release from RHN using yum update command
- Sound does not work after reboot, continuous beep sound is heard from speakers

Also gnome desktop freezes frequently

System is accessible over network using ssh but console access freezes
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5
- Nvidia MCP51 Audio
- Dell OptiPlex 740 Enhanced
