cpuspeed does not start up on servers with westmere cpu.

Issue

  • The cpuspeed daemon does not work on servers with Westmere cpu .The following errors are seen when starting the service  :

    # cpuspeed 
Error: Could not open file for writing: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor 
Error: No such file or directory

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU  X5670
