Why do I get "error: Zip file too big (greater than 4294959102 bytes)" when using unzip on RHEL5 and previous versions?

When using unzip, getting the following error message:
error: Zip file too big (greater than 4294959102 bytes)
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 and previous versions
- unzip (all versions before 6.0)
