Why has my server stopped logging NTP?

Issue

• Logging stopped, no logs about ntp services  in /var/log/messages or ntp.log.

• Why ntpd service is auto stopped with below error messages every time we start the ntpd service manually?

# service ntpd status
ntpd dead but pid file exists

# dmesg |grep ntpd
