Windows guest on KVM lost a network interface suddenly

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

A Windows guest with virtio-win unexpectedly lost a network interface.

There were no error messages in /var/log/messages or in /var/log/libvirt/qemu/.log on the KVM host. But, we found the following messages:

# /var/log/libvirt/libvirt.log
...(snip)...
<date/time>: 2674: warning : qemuMonitorJSONHandleDeviceDeleted:950 : missing device in device deleted event
...(snip)...

# /var/log/messages
...(snip)...
<date, time, host> kernel: device vnet11 left promiscuous mode
<date, time, host> kernel: bridge0: port 2(vnet11) entered disabled state
...(snip)...

We think that the above messages are the same as a pattern of removing VM's device using libvirt. But, our customer said that they executed nothing.

  • Are there any workarounds of this issue?
