EVM how to change the Vim Broker Notification Properties to prevent excessive full refreshes
Environment
- Enterprise Virtualization Manager 4
- Enterprise Virtualization Manager 5
- CloudForms 2.0
Issue
- Our environment is unresponsive, appliances continue to go online/offline, reporting and scheduling do not work.
Resolution
There are two properties which can be added to the Vim Broker Notification Properties file which will reduce the amount of full refreshes that happen within the system. Because the role responsible for handling the VIM Broker can migrate to any of the appliances in the zone these changes should be introduced into each appliance in all zones.
To add these properties to the Vim Broker Notification Properties file:
- Goto Wrench -> Configuration
- Under settings (in the accordion menu along the left) select the EVM Server
- Click the Advanced tab
- Select "EVM Vim Broker Notification Properties" as the Configuration File to Edit
- Under VirtualMachine (in the exclude section) add the following properties:
- summary.storage.committed:
- summary.storage.unshared:
- Click Save
Please pay particular attention to the alignment of these two new entries. They must align exactly with all of the other entries in the list and must be terminated by a colon (":") as do all of the others.
Once these changes are made on each appliance it will need to be restarted for the changes take effect.
Root Cause
- Appliances are running full refreshes multiple times a day causing slow performance.
