RHEL5.9 - ntp steps time quicker than 0.5ms per sec to adjust delay in slew mode

Issue

  • On RHEL5, we can see ntp has adjusted its delay in slew mode far quicker than documented ( it says taking 2000 sec to adjust 1 sec, but actually approx. 3 times faster than doc ).
  • If that is incorrect behavior, customer may want to fix documentation.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9
  • kernel-2.6.18-348.el5
  • ntp-4.2.2p1-15.el5_7.1
