Will booting into kernel-smp on RHEL enable utilization of all cores?

The server is running non-smp kernel version. The server is not utilizing the dual core processor. Will setting the grub.conf to use kernel-smp and rebooting correct the issue?

How to configure a server to use the SMP kernel?
- Need to upgrade kernel from a single cpu to a newly added 2 processor configuration
