RHEL7.6: NFS4 client using gssproxy with kerberos NFS share and Active Directory on windows 2016 sees process hangs in gss_cred_init

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

Machine (and autofs) hang due to underlying issue with rpc.gssd. Oldest blocked tasks in the vmcore are blocked over 14 hours and waiting inside gss_cred_init() for an upcall to complete. This points at some underlying issue, possibly with kerberos or rpc.gssd itself.

Environment

  • NFS client (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6)
    • gssproxy used on the NFS client
  • NFS server (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6)
  • NFSv4.1 with kerberos
  • Active Directory
    • Windows Server 2016
