watchdog service is not working because /dev/watchdog does not exist
Issue
When using the software watchdog from the package watchdog, the needed /dev/watchdog is not created automatically.
This results in the following message in /var/log/messages:
watchdog: cannot open /dev/watchdog (errno = 2 = 'No such file or directory')
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- no hardware watchdog built into the server
