Portion of disk being randomly overwritten
Issue
- Portions of beginning of an LVM physical volume are being over-written at random intervals
- This results in "unknown device" errors in lvm output and the need to recover from lvm metadata backup
- Need to determine what process is accessing the disk at these intervals
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- Storage being randomly over-written for reasons unknown
