Is it safe to delete old log files without restarting JBoss?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

The production JBoss server log directory is configured to create daily a new log file.  We decided to archive monthly these files and store them on a disk.  As a second step we would need to remove from the production JBoss server the log files that we archived previously. Could I remove the log files from the JBoss server while this is up and running or do I need to shutdown first the server in order to remove these files?
