VMware randomly changes boot order after virtual hardware change
Issue
- We recently added virtual hardware to the guest and the guest will no longer boot up.
- When using the rescue ISO, the boot disk is seen as
4:0:0:0
aka/dev/sdt
, although the vm has set the first disk to0:0:0
. - When a disc is attached to the system, from time to time, the disc changes around, it changes to
/dev/sdb
,/dev/sdc
or/dev/sdh
.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6, 7
- VMware ESX
- VMware Workstation
