ipa trust-add fails to setup trust between AD and IPA with "The requested operation was unsuccessful"

Issue

  • When setting up an external trust from IdM to AD we see the following error:
# ipa trust-add --type=ad --two-way=false ad.example.com --admin=Administrator --password --external=true
Active Directory domain administrator's password:
ipa: ERROR: CIFS server communication error: code "3221225473", message "{Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful." (both may be "None")
