Can not detach SSD backed EBS volume on AWS EC2 instances based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5

Issue

  • While detaching EBS volume from an AWS instance, the SSD-backed volume stuck in detaching state.
  • We can't detach an EBS volume from the AWS RHEL 7.x instance
  • OpenShift pods deployed at AWS keeps failing to mount a volume with the following message:

    Unable to mount volumes for pod "podname(UUID)": timeout expired waiting for volumes to attach/mount for pod "namespance"/"podname-uuid". list of unattached/unmounted volumes=[volume-0]
