Why the major number of sub paths of the same SAN device are different?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We have a system which is connected to the SAN devices, and there are two subpaths associated with each SAN device. The two subpaths for same SAN devices are showing different Major numbers, is this expected behavior? or does this indicate any issues?

    $ ls -ld /dev/sdcz /dev/sdz
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 70, 112 Apr 29 10:53 /dev/sdcz
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 65, 144 Apr 29 10:53 /dev/sdz

    In above snip, the devices sdcz and sdz are subpath of the same SAN device, but both of them are having different Major numbers.
