Basic command line utilities fail and generate core dumps with Tripwire twnotify module enabled

Issue

  • A variety of commands are failing and producing core files.

    # ls -la |awk '{print $1}'
awk: fatal error: internal error
Aborted (core dumped)

  • When commands fail seeing "segfault" & "general protection" errors in log files. Some examples are:

    python general protection ip:xxxxxx sp:xxxxxx error:xxxxxx in libpython2.6.so.1.0
rhsmd general protection ip:xxxxxx sp:xxxxxx error:xxxxxx in libpython2.6.so.1.0
rpm segfault at:xxxxxx ip:xxxxxx sp:xxxxxx error:xxxxxx in librpm.so.1.0.0

  • Tripwire twnotify kernel module
