Print jobs disappear from the spool after three hours in RHEL

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • On a new system I send print job on printers that doesn't exist. The jobs stay in the print queue (the lpstat -o command shows them; however, after a few hours, the jobs are removed from the spool (they are no longer in the output of lpstat -o).
  • Our print jobs take a very long time to print. After several hours, the jobs seem to be automatically canceled.
  • We leave print jobs in the queue overnight, but they are deleted by morning.
  • Is there a chance to retry printing endless or at least not to cancel the job?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 & 8
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) 1.6.3 & 2.2.6
