How do I detect make and model of monitor attached to system?

Issue

We have many Red Hat enterprise Linux systems in our setup.
We need to know make and model of the monitor attached to these RHEL systems for inventory purpose.
Many of these systems are booted in runlevel 3 without X running.
Is there any way to probe monitor information from command line mode?
