virsh attach-device, setvcpu, setmem fail on inactive domains

Issue

  • Running 'virsh setvcpus' so as to change the number of virtual CPUs on an inactive KVM guest fails with the following error message.

    # virsh setvcpus <guest name> 2
    error: Requested operation is not valid: domain is not running
    
  • 'virsh setmem' on an inactive guest fails with the following error message.

    # virsh setmem <guest name> 524288
    error: Requested operation is not valid: domain is not running
    

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0

  • libvirt-0.8.1-7
