Why does the system reports as Oracle Linux?

Issue

  • /etc/issue file reports system asOracle Linux.
  • /etc/redhat-release file reports system as Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release X.X (XXXXX).
[root@test ~]# cat /etc/issue
Oracle Linux Server release 6.8

[root@test ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.8 (Santiago)
  • Getting below error while installing Red Hat Shipped redhat-release-server package:
https://cdn.redhat.com/content/dist/rhel/server/6/%24releasever/x86_64/os/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 22 - "The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found"
