"libvirt does not support virtualHW.version 9" when trying to v2v a VMWare virtual machine?

Issue

  • When migrating a VMware virtual machine with hardware version vmx9, we get the following error:
# virt-v2v -ic esx://host.example.com/?no_verify=1 -os 127.0.0.1:/mnt/exportdomain/export -o rhev -of qcow2 -on ABC123 --bridge rhevm VirtualMachineName
libvirt error code: 1, message: internal error Expecting VMX entry 'virtualHW.version' to be 4, 7 or 8 but found 9

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
