Getting disk geometry mismatch errors and "wrong checksum" messages on SAN disks

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Disk geometry mismatch errors on SAN disks when partprobe is run:
    [root@redhat ~]# partprobe
Warning: The disk CHS geometry (239,255,63) reported by the operating system does not match the geometry stored on the disk label (937,128,32).
Warning: The disk CHS geometry (239,255,63) reported by the operating system does not match the geometry stored on the disk label (937,128,32).
Warning: The disk CHS geometry (239,255,63) reported by the operating system does not match the geometry stored on the disk label (937,128,32).

  • disklabel checksum error in fdisk output:
    [root@redhat ~]# fdisk -l /dev/sdjs
Detected sun disklabel with wrong checksum.
Probably you'll have to set all the values,
e.g. heads, sectors, cylinders and partitions
or force a fresh label (s command in main menu)

  • disk corruption is suspected
