Why the 'subscription-manager status' command fails with the error 'Error No module named http_client' after security patching?

Issue

  • After installing security patches using yum update --security the subscription-manager status command fails with the below error.
[root@example ~]# subscription-manager status
Unable to find Subscription Manager module.
Error: No module named http_client

[root@example ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.5 (Maipo)
[root@example ~]#

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x
  • Red Hat Enteprise Linux 6.x
