Kernel panic with "multipath library" errors, after security update on SAN bootable server.

Issue

  • Kernel panics with multipath library errors as "*** glibc detected *** multipathd: free (): invalid pointer : 0x0000xxxxx ***"
    Error screen shot shown as below :

  • Dropping at debug shell while using "rdbreak rdhell" option at kernel command line shows dracut warning similar to the
    following, indicating that the root VG and LV are not found :

  • Issue happening after kernel upgrade with security updates only.

  • System was able to boot with old kernel, but generating abrt logs for process "multipath". multipath getting killed by signal 6(SIGABRT).

  • "multipath -ll" command fails even with old kernel. Throws multipath package library errors as below :
